The State government has been urged by Siddha practitioners to revive the ‘Siddha Medical Council’ in order to protect genuine practitioners.
Addressing journalists here on Friday, V. Kalidoss, president of Siddha Ayurveda, Unani, Maruthuvargal Matthiya Nala Sangam, said a memorandum to this effect had been sent to the Chief Minister. The association was also meeting various officials and ministers, including M.K. Alagiri, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, regarding this issue. Further, the association had requested the government to include one of its office-bearers in the council so that the Siddha practitioners' views could be put forth.
He said the Tamil Nadu had two government and four private Siddha medical colleges, apart from six private Ayurveda colleges and one government Unani college. Mr. Kalidoss also refuted reports of the presence of quacks among practitioners of native medicines.
