CPI(M) State secretary says protests will end only if Chandy resigns

The current problems of the United Democratic Front government will not be solved by a mere Cabinet reshuffling, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said. The Opposition Left Democratic Front’s protest programmes against the solar scam would end only with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s resignation, he added.

He was speaking on the second day of the day-night satyagraha organised by the Left parties demanding Mr. Chandy’s resignation at Muthalakkulam here on Thursday.

Mr. Chandy and the Congress party did not trust Kerala Congress (M) leaders. Accusing them of contacting the Left was not proper, he said. “The leading figure of Mr. Chandy’s coterie is spreading rumours that I had a meeting with K.M. Mani. If Mr. Chandy and the Congress were suspicious about anyone, they should not try to clarity them at the LDF’s expense. The Left will not hatch any conspiracy to bring down the government. We could have done that long ago. All our moves are in public view,” said Mr. Vijayan.

He said many felt tempted to believe statements that were coming out in the name of Saritha S. Nair. In a blatant violation of court verdict, Saritha, who was supposed to submit her statement before the Ernakulam CJM court was taken to the Kothamangalam court, he said. She was sent to police custody for three days so as to brainwash her into giving a statement in favour of them. Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan or the Chief Minister could be behind this. Only a judicial inquiry can bring out the real facts of the case, he said.

CPI (M) district unit secretary T.P. Ramakrishnan presided over the function.
