Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said the Cabinet decision on the new liquor policy is final and there is no question of reconsidering it since it is based on social realities.

In an article released for publication here on Monday, Mr. Chandy said the unambiguous decision on the amended version of the liquor policy had been taken after detailed discussions at various levels.

“No one can tether the State government to controversies on account of this. There are several issues that were awaiting resolution.

The government is determined to address each one of these issues that will provide solace to the people and ensure that the development goals are achieved,” he said.

Rejecting the contention that amendments to the liquor policy were made at the behest of external influence, Mr. Chandy said the changes had been brought in the interests of practicability and general good.

“The changes are a continuation of the United Democratic Front (UDF) government’s policy launched in 2011 ,” he said.
