he Cabinet at its meeting in the capital on Wednesday approved a road map to revive the Pariyaram Cooperative Medical College (PMC), which includes separate probes into appointments carried out without government sanction and financial irregularities and a review of the staff pattern.
The road map has been prepared by the Cabinet subcommittee appointed to process further steps that would facilitate full government takeover of the college and its subsidiary institutions.
The college was the first major initiative of the cooperative sector in the field of professional education. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, in his post-Cabinet news briefing here, said M.V. Jayarajan, vice chairman of the Kerala State Cooperative Hospital Complex, the apex body that runs the medical college, had been informed about the decisions.
Accordingly, it has been decided to appoint a special team of the Finance Inspection Wing to carry out a probe into the financial irregularities in the conduct of the college and other connected institutions on the basis of an audit report on the assets and liabilities and the District Collector’s report.
The inspection wing has been asked to submit its report within a month.
An expert committee of the Health and Education Departments will identify excess staff and submit a report on streamlining the staff pattern in accordance with the norms prescribed by the Medical Council of India.
This expert committee too has been asked to submit its report within a month.
Apart from this, the Secretary for Cooperation will conduct a probe into illegal appointments carried out without the sanction of the Department of Cooperatives.
