C-zone arts festival begins

The zonal (C-zone) arts festival of Calicut University began here on Friday. Artist C.H. Mariath inaugurated the off-stage events of the festival by sketching a painting at Government Women’s College here.

College Principal Geeta Nambiar, programme committee chairman Zainul Abid Kotta, Calicut University Students Union vice chairperson C. Sajita, Muslim Students Federation (MSF) district president T.P. Haris, general secretary V.P. Ahamed Saheer and treasurer Nisaj Edappatta were present.

Seven stages

The festival is being held at seven stages at Government Women’s College. On the inaugural day, competitions were held in Malayalam, English, Urdu, Sanskrit and Arabic versification, oil painting, poster making, spot photography, Hindi, Tamil and English story writing, Malayalam and Arabic essay writing, embroidery and cartoon.

Stage events will be held on May 1, 2 and 3 at four venues.

Government College, Malappuram, will be the main venue. Students from 120 government, aided and unaided colleges under Calicut University are presenting their artistic talents in the six-day event.
