Bus owners defer strike

The Joint Action Committee of Private Bus Owners, at a meeting here on Saturday, decided to defer its indefinite strike proposed from August 3.

Committee chairman A.K. Abdullah and convener T. Gopinathan said in a statement here that the decision was taken following the government decision to appoint a three-member committee headed by a retired judge to examine the issues like the bus charge hike for students and the problems faced by the private bus operators in the State.

They discussed the issues with the Transport Minister at a meeting in Kochi on Friday, the statement said.

The State Private Bus Operators Federation, All Kerala Bus Operators Organisation, Kerala State Bus Owners Federations, Kerala State Limited Stop Operators Association, Bus Industry Protection Committee, Limited Stop Co-ordination Committee and the Kerala State Bus Owners and Operations Federation attended the meeting held here.
