Fares of nine classes of stage carriers, including Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses, in the State went up from Monday midnight by six to 10 paise per km.
The government revised the fares taking into account the hike in diesel price and other operational costs.
The fares for various classes on Ghat roads have gone up by 25 per cent of the rates for the respective classes on roads on the plains, as per a notification issued by the Transport Secretary here late in the night.
The bus fare for students and students’ concession has not been hiked.
The KSRTC director board has been permitted to reduce the fare for inter-State super express services up to 15 per cent during the off-season months of February, March, June, July and October.
In the peak-season months of April, May, August, September, November and December, the State transport utility can charge up to 10 per cent above the existing fare in inter-State super express and other upper class services.
