Breach of privacy of rape victim: case against SP, Collector

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken a case against the Thrissur Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) on a complaint that they failed to protect the privacy of a rape victim.

Rights panel member K. Mohan Kumar has taken action on a complaint that the victim, a hearing and speech impaired from Nattika, was admitted to a general ward for treatment after she was brutally raped.

Breach of guidelines

The police brought the accused Bihari Biju to take evidence to the general ward. It was a breach of guidelines of Supreme Court regarding protection of privacy of rape victims, the hum an rights panel observed.

A case was taken against Collector V. Ratheeshan; Superintendent of Police, Rural, R. Nis hanthini; District Medical Officer V. Suhita; and Medical College Hospital Superintendent Shamsad Begam.

The woman was harassed by the man when she was alone at home at Nattika last week. The victim had suffered serious injuries in the attack. The police had arrested Bihari Biju in this connection.
