Kerala Tourism has opened official pages on social media in foreign languages to reach out to French and German-speaking people.

The pages contain details of the destinations in the State in French (https://www.facebook.com/KeralaTourismeOfficiel) and in German (https://www.facebook.com/KeralaTourismus) to help holidayers with their preparations, and to enable others to understand the experiences offered by ‘God’s Own Country.’

The official French and German pages of Kerala Tourism on Facebook are interactive and reader-friendly with photographs and descriptions, giving glimpses of key destinations, from the backwaters and the hill station of Munnar to the elephant camps at Konni.

The Facebook pages, however, are not just about destinations. Kerala Tourism has also taken the initiative to popularise Ayurveda, the age-old tradition that has its roots in Kerala, among travellers seeking wellness and therapeutic solutions.

The official Facebook page of Kerala Tourism, started in 2009, is popular among global travellers and has 85,000 fans. France is the second biggest foreign market for Kerala after the United Kingdom. Nearly 1 lakh French tourists visited the State last year.

Germany is also a key market for Kerala as the country ranks on top of the list of foreign tourists arriving in the State for Ayurveda treatment.

“It is very important for us to communicate in various languages of the world,” said Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar. “There are people around the world who love Kerala, and it makes a lot of difference when we reach out to them in their own language.”

The department has also launched official accounts on multiple social media platforms such as Instagram (http://instagram.com/keralatourism), pinterest (http://www.pinterest.com/ktofficial/) and LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/company/keralatourism) to take its social media efforts to the next level.

These new accounts are being welcomed wholeheartedly by netizens, with the Instagram account already posting more than 200 followers and pinterest over 150. A contest conducted by Kerala Tourism is currently on on pinterest asking people to create pinterest boards titled “GreatBackwaters” and display Kerala backwater-related pins on them. Ten winners will be given exciting prizes.
