Bombs were thrown at police personnel at Ambadimukku, near here, on Friday when they reached the area following an outbreak of tension between activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)].

The police said when a group of BJP activists erected party flagpoles at Ambadimukku in a bid to reclaim the party stronghold that was lost to the CPI(M) after BJP rebels joined the CPI(M) camp, the CPI(M) activists removed the flagpoles and the BJP flags. When the police reached the spot, country bombs were thrown at them. No police personnel were injured.

The police removed the flags and columns of both the CPI(M) and the BJP. The situation remained tense, the police said.
