An object, suspected to be a bomb, was found today at the Municipal Indoor Stadium here, opposite the venue of the ongoing Afro-Asian Theatre Festival attended by artistes of several countries, including Pakistan.

Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad has been pressed into service to check the object which had a wick protruding from it, police said.

The object was found around 2 pm near the office of the stadium, located opposite to the Kerala Sangeet Natak Akademi where the 12—day festival is on since December 20.

Drama troops from various states and also from African countries and Pakistan are participating in the festival.

Security has been beefed up at the festival venue after the object was found.

An official of the bomb disposal squad suspected the object of the size of a cricket ball might contain explosives, but said its contents can be established only after a thorough examination.
