The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Janaraksha Yatra in the district is an utter failure, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has said.

Taking a dig at the absence of BJP president Amit Shah, who was scheduled to join the march from Mambaram to Thalassery here on Thursday, CPI(M) district secretary P. Jayarajan said the yatra had become a deflated balloon after Mr. Shah decided to skip the event. The BJP president decided not to join the yatra since he was convinced that the march would not make any impact on the people, he said. The propaganda that the yatra would have a huge impact on the CPI(M) strongholds in the district failed, he added.

Mr. Jayarajan said the mediapersons who accompanied Mr. Shah were also convinced that it was the RSS that was instigating violence whereas the CPI(M) was involved in public service. The BJP was launching the campaign against the CPI(M) in New Delhi because it knew that the CPI(M) was an obstacle to the BJP’s efforts to influence the people here. As the yatra had failed in its first phase in the district, the BJP should withdraw from its plan to unleash a national-level campaign, Mr. Jayarajan added.
