Congress stand against Sukumaran Nair, Vellappally decried

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday criticised a meeting conducted here recently by the Kerala Students Union and the Youth Congress against NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair and SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan.

The KSU-Youth Congress meeting, titled ‘Nadu Kadathal’ ceremony, symbolically “banished” Mr. Nair and Mr. Natesan from the State.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP district president B. Gopalakrishnan demanded an apology from the Congress leadership.

“If the Congress leadership does not tender an apology within 24 hours, the BJP will conduct in front of the office of the District Congress Committee a similar ‘Nadu Kadathal’ ceremony, symbolically ‘banishing’ Congress president Sonia Gandhi and senior Congress leaders from the country. By its misdeeds, the Congress has insulted the leaders of two prominent communities, and Hindus in general. The BJP, with the possible support of NSS and SNDP, will launch an agitation if the Congress does not change its stance,” said Mr. Gopalakrishnan.

He said such issues revealed the alleged anti-Hindu approach of the Congress. The Congress has always been a party of and for minorities. When the Congress is at the helm, the majority community suffers. Will the Congress stage a protest meeting against leaders of minority communities? Will the party’s young wing or a feeder organisation conduct a meeting against Thrissur Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhathu or IUML State president Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal?” he asked. The BJP district president condemned a move of the Cabinet to remove B. Ashok, Vice-Chancellor of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), from the post for allegedly writing an article in support of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
