BJP demands Central probe into death of Satnam Singh

August 06, 2012 07:08 pm | Updated 07:08 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

BJP State president V. Muraleedharan said here on Monday that the KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala should clarify his party’s stand on the Nelliyampathy issue.

Congress members of the Assembly had gone on a fact finding mission to Nelliyampathy, expressing lack of confidence in the sub committee of UDF which was studying the issue. Though the government Chief Whip P. C. George had ridiculed the Congress legislators, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had not reacted to that. This was because P. C. George was often acting an agent of Mr. Chandy. The Chief Minister, Finance Minister K. M. Mani and Mr. George were hijacking the UDF agenda to favour the estate owners, the BJP leader said.

A team of the party consisting of himself, Mr. C. K. Padmanabhan, P. M. Velayudhan and Narayanan Namboothiri would visit Nelliyampathy to study issue.

Mr. Muraleedharan demanded that an enquiry by a Central agency should be ordered into the death of the Satnam Singh had attempted to attack Mata Amrithanandamayi in Kollam district. The case had inter-State ramifications. If the police were responsible for his death, Kerala police could not be expected to detect the case. If somebody else had done it, it has to be probed whether he had any links with terrorists.

He denied that there was any rift in the party over the forthcoming organisational elections.
