BJP demands CBI probe into Muthoot murder

September 12, 2009 02:53 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 09:39 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded a CBI enquiry into the Paul Muthoot George murder case.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP spokesman M.S. Kumar alleged that efforts were underway to undermine the investigation into the case and divert the course of investigation. Journalists who exposed those efforts were being threatened. The real estate mafia who were behind the murder, had connections with Ministers.

Mr. Kumar said the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner had travelled with the goonda leaders arrested in Thiurnelveli to Thiruvananthapuram though he had no authority to question the accused in judicial custody. The actual objective was to coach them on their statements, he alleged.

He noted that the charges registered by the police against the goonda leaders in connection with the murder case were bailable offences such as the destruction of evidence and failure to report the murder.
