BJP, CPI(M) workers clash, 3 suffer stab wounds

Prohibitory orders at Chakkarakkal

February 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:50 am IST - KANNUR:

Three persons suffered stab wounds and a local office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was vandalised in clashes between workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Chakkarakkal on Wednesday.

The fresh outbreak of violence at Chakkarakkal, after a brief lull following the clashes last week, marred the law and order situation in the area.

The police clamped prohibitory orders on the areas under the Chakkarakkal police station limits under Sections 78 and 79 of the Kerala Police Act for 10 days.

A posse of police personnel was deployed there in view of the renewed tension.

The trouble started early in the morning when the E.K. Nayanar Smaraka Mandiram which houses the office of the CPI(M) Anjarakkandy area committee at Chakkarakkal came under attack by alleged BJP-RSS workers, the police said. Two persons staying in the office were stabbed and the office was vandalised by the assailants.
