BJP national president Amit Shah will attend party meetings in the city and hold discussions with leaders of the State unit on Monday.

He will be speaking at a meeting of the State committee on Monday morning and a delegates’ conference in the afternoon.

The main objective of Mr. Shah’s visit is to prepare the State unit for the coming elections to the local-self governments for winning more seats, apart from merely increasing the vote share. A major impediment to his task is the infighting in the State unit of the party that has intensified after the party came to power at the Centre.

Mr. Shah will surely be trying to iron out the differences and discuss strategies for the local body elections with party leaders and workers.

In this regard, his meetings with the State committee members and booth-level leaders will be of crucial importance.

It is notable that RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat and Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Pon Radhakrishnan, who is in charge of Kerala affairs of the party, are also visiting Thiruvananthapuram to coincide with Mr. Shah’s visit.

They will also be playing a part in streamlining party affairs in the State and readying the party for the polls.

Mr. Shah has already given a hint by dropping P.K. Krishnadas, who led the group against the official group, from the secretaryship of the party at the national level. However, a last word has not yet been said on which group would prevail if a patch-up fails.

Some party leaders are campaigning for the removal of State president V. Muraleedharan from the post. Against this background, Mr. Shah’s on-the-spot assessment will be crucial in deciding the future leadership of the party in the State.

The State unit has prepared a blueprint for the election campaign and this is being modified on the basis of discussions at the meetings of the State committee and office-bearers held on Sunday.
