The birth centenary of the former Catholicos of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Baselius Mar Thoma Mathews-II, will be observed at St. Cyril’s College at Adoor on January 30. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the celebration, according to Fr. Thomas Mathew, secretary of the Adoor-Kadambanad diocese.The Malankara Metropolitan and Catholicos of the East Baselius Mar Thoma Paulose-II will preside over the function.
The Catholicos will present the Baselius Mar Thoma Mathew-II Award to Additional Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson on the occasion. Forest Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will launch a cancer care project of the diocese. Mr. Thomson will deliver the Baselius Mar Thoma Mathews-II commemoration speech.
