Says LDF had no moral right to seek his resignation

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said that Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, had obtained a passport illegally when the latter was serving as Home Minister during the tenure of the last Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.

Alleging that the LDF leaders, including Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, had no moral right to seek his resignation, Mr. Radhakrishnan said Mr. Bineesh had six criminal cases charged against him during the period.

Out of these, five were withdrawn by the police when the senior Kodiyeri was Home Minister. The police had begun the procedures for withdrawing the sixth one, but he got his passport when the case was still on, under a false certification.

‘‘Mr. Balakrishnan was under oath (of secrecy and allegiance) and should not have done like that,’’ Mr Radhakrishnan said. He said he was talking about only one case and not the entire reality.

The Home Minister said the UDF would not engage in political vendetta, but he was only pointing out the issue to drive the point that Mr. Balakrishnan had no moral right to engage in accusations.

The Home Minister said the Opposition at the local level was triggered by insecurity as the constituency (Kottayam) was witnessing unprecedented developmental activities. Roads, bridges, and road overbridges which were in the pipeline for decades were becoming a reality, he said.
