Prime accused in the solar scam Biju Radhakrishnan and Saritha S. Nair were on Thursday brought here in connection with a case registered for cheating a person promising to set up a windmill power unit.

The accused were brought here as per a production warrant issued by the Hosdurg Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, which remanded them in 14 days’ judicial custody.

The court premises witnessed heavy crowd when the accused were brought around 4 p.m.

Radhakrishnan and Saritha had allegedly received Rs.1.75 lakh from P.K. Madhavan Nambiar, a resident of Kanhirapoyil, T. Hamsa, Ajuanur and C.H. Ibrahim assuring him dealership to set up a windmill of the Coimbatore-based ICMS Power unit in January 2009.

The amount was paid in two instalments – Rs. 1 lakh on January 5, 2009, and the remaining amount on January 17, counsel for Saritha told the Hindu.

Taliparamba Dy.SP Sudarshan, who is investigating the case, had questioned the accused last week in connection with the cheating case registered under Section 420 of the IPC.

The police conducted a ‘test identification parade’ and the complainants reportedly identified them as the persons who duped them.

The accused, in all probability, would be sent to the Kannur Central Jail on Thursday itself from where they would be taken to Ernakulam to produce them in another case in Idukki to be taken up soon, P. Thamban, Dy.SP, Kanhangad, told The Hindu.
