A court here has sentenced a 52-year-old man to five years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for trying to sexually abuse his 14-year-old daughter at Vellarikundu in April last year.
Pronouncing his verdict on Friday, district sessions court judge M. Shakthidharan also slapped a fine of Rs.2,000 or in default an additional jail term for three months on the man, residing at Pungamchal locality.
The incident came to light after police went to the man’s house in connection with the suicide of his wife. The girl, during interrogation, revealed that her father had tired to sexually abuse in her house.
Later, a case was registered against the man invoking the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act-2012.
