The 29th Akhila Bharata Srimad Bhagavatha Maha Sathram, considered the largest annual Vaishnavite spiritual retreat in South India, being held at Thuravur Mahakshetram Temple in the district from April 2, is attracting big crowds.
Large number of devotees turned out at the Sathram venue on Sunday also, which is the seventh day of the Sathram. T.K.A. Nair, advisor to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, T.V. Chandramohan, Guruvayur Devaswom Board president and P. Venugopal, Pathanamthitta district collector visited the Sathram venue on Sunday.
The main discourses on Sunday include Sriramavatharam by Guruvayur Kesavan Namboothiri and Srikrishnavatharam by Perumpally Kesavan Namboothiri. Discussions on ‘avatharams’ (incarnations) which is a major part of Bhagavatham got over by Sunday and from Monday onwards ‘Sreekrishanleelas’ described in the Bhagavatham will get the focus.
All the devotees were being provided free food and accommodation. The total cost of the yajnam is expected to be Rs one crore. The Sathram will conclude on April 14.
