Be wary of greens: KSEB engineers

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Senior Engineers Forum feels that the State government “should be cautious about greens triggering another round of resistance to stall the Athirapilly project.”

At a seminar on “Hydel Projects and Kerala” organised by the forum here on Wednesday, the senior engineers pointed out to the government that the EAC clearance for the project had come after examining a litany of objections raised by greens over the years.

In his keynote address at the seminar, former Member (Generation) of the Kerala State Electricity Board K. Radhakrishnan said unless steps were taken to implement large electricity generation projects, Kerala would soon be gripped by a serious power crunch.

He wanted the State government to constitute a high power committee to coordinate moves for getting clearance for the other pending hydel projects.

In Kerala, hydroelectric initiatives were the only option for large load projects. Solar and wind were not sustainable options, he added.
