Battle of brains on 64 squares

THiS chess competition begins at Vaniyamkulam on Tuesday

There is good news for children in the district who love to make moves on 64 squares. The Hindu in School (THiS) Chess Competition-2016 scheduled to be held at the PK Das Institute of Medical Sciences at Vaniyamkulam near here on July 26 and 27 is an opportunity for budding chess enthusiasts to test their mettle.

All arrangements are in place for the competition to be held in association with the Kerala Chess Association in the sub-junior (LKG to IV standards), junior (V to VIII standards), and senior (IX to XII standards) categories.

Spot registration is allowed at the venue at 8.30 a.m. on the inaugural day and the participants have to bring their own chess board, pieces, clock, and lunch. Snacks will be provided to the participants. Every participant has to produce his or her school ID card at the venue of the competition. The entry fee per participant is Rs.100.

Thyrocare is the national sponsor of the competition. Regional gift sponsor is Club Mahindra. Lions Club of Ottapalam and Vasan Dental Care are the other gift sponsors.

Students who have registered online should bring a printout of the confirmatory email received from The Hindu along with their school identity card. Both these documents are mandatory and need to be given at the registration desk.

The tournament will be played on Swiss League basis under the latest FIDE Rapid Rules.

The decision of the tournament committee will be final and binding to all.

The tournament committee has every right to make addition/amendments to the rules. The organiser has every right to accept or reject any entry without assigning any reasons thereof and the right to admission to the venue also rests with the organisers. Each participant will be given participation certificate and prizes will be given to the winners.
