In an apparent case of suspected short circuit, the Panampilly Nagar branch of the Canara Bank was destroyed in a fire that broke out on Tuesday.

The office furniture, computers and counters of the bank, located at the first floor of the Anjiparambil Buildings near South Over Bridge, were destroyed in the fire. However, the records room and locker room were safe. Short circuit is suspected to be the reason for fire, said Joe Kuruvila Easow, Divisional Fire Officer.

No one was injured in the accident

The fire might have started late on Tuesday night. The Fire and Rescue officers received the alert call at 6.05 a.m. Five water tenders and 25 personnel from the Gandhi Nagar and Club Road Fire Stations were deployed for the fire fighting exercise and it was brought under control within 10 minutes, Mr. Easow said.

The bank officials who reached the office were seen assessing the damage.
