Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has called upon Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan to join hands in exposing the alleged graft in the Thamarakudy Service Cooperative Bank at Mylom in Kottarakara. In a letter to Mr. Achuthanandan on Tuesday, the MP said Rs.12 crore was siphoned off the bank and the bank was facing liquidation because of it.
In the letter Mr. Suresh pointed out that the bank had been administered by a CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front director board from 1980 to January 2015. Today the bank had a liability of Rs.12 crore.
The director board had been dissolved and the bank was now under an administrative committee comprising three government officers. He said a major portion of the deposits of the bank came from cashew and farm workers of the area.
The MP alleged in the letter that a portion of the gold ornaments kept in the lockers of the bank had been looted. A probe into such developments had confirmed the looting following which the Kerala High Court intervened, calling for more probe.
