In a boost to the backwater tourism sector in the district, a couple organised their wedding reception on a floating jhankar in Vembanad Lake on Monday.

The couple, Jino and Jicksa, hailing from Alappuzha and Kottayam respectively, tied the knot at St. Mary’s Church, Punnamada, in the morning.

Later, the newly wedded couple along with guests moved to the specially arranged jhankar for the reception, which included cutting the cake and performance by a choir.

Mainland

The wedding feast was arranged on the mainland.

The programme ‘Lake Wedding’ was organised by a Kochi-based event management company.

Help tourism

Organisers said that the event would help to attract more tourists to backwaters.
