Azhikode trying to glorify CPI(M) leaders: Vibhag

September 13, 2009 07:46 pm | Updated 07:46 pm IST - KANNUR:

The district unit of the KPCC Vichar Vibhag, the cultural forum of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), has taken exception to social critic Sukumar Azhikode's attempt to 'glorify' leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) who it says are responsible for the 'degeneration' of the party.

A press release issued by the forum after its meeting here on Sunday said that Dr. Azhikode was trying to extol the CPI(M) leaders and the party in the State which was passing though a phase of 'deepest crisis' in its history. The CPI(M) party workers and sympathisers were getting disillusioned following the breaking of the links connecting the ideology, programmes and organisation of the party.

Terming Dr. Azhikode's attempt as pathetic, the release said that his reported statement that the Congress had deviated from its principles at a public function here on Saturday sounded hollow. He was speaking like a spokesman of the CPI(M) which showed its intolerance of the media and independent intellectuals, the Vibhag said.

Vibhag district president Balachandran Keezholth presided over the meeting.
