‘Mazhapolima’, the groundwater recharge programme through roof-water harvesting, has received an international award at the Word Water Forum held in the Republic of Korea.
The award was given for presentation of an innovative project for water conservation.
Mazhpolima director Jos C. Raphael presented the project at the Forum. Mazhapolima, which was implemented in 2008 to find a solution to the acute drought situation prevailing in many areas in the State, has made significant contribution towards water conservation.
More 20,000 open wells have been recharged under the project from 2008 to March 31, 2015, according to the District Collector, who is the chairperson of the Mazhapolima project.
