Avoid controversies, Joseph tells UDF

April 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

Minister for Rural Development K.C. Joseph has said that the recent controversies in the United Democratic Front (UDF) and within the Congress party should have been avoided. Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, the Minister said such controversies would affect the UDF’s victory chances in the local body and Assembly polls.

The prevailing political situation ensured the UDF a victory, he said.

In fact, the people were always with the UDF and it was the controversies which cost the coalition a victory in most elections.

“If we stand united there is every chance of the UDF coming back to power,” he said. Mr. Joseph wanted the UDF’s constituents to desist from creating a situation which may mar the chances of the coalition.

Mr. Joseph said no on would be able to drive a wedge between Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

Criticising the visual media, he said, “First they muddy the waters and later try to fish in those troubled waters. This is a wrong trend,” he said.

Discussions

In a coalition there could be different opinions. But a final decision would be taken jointly through discussions, Mr. Joseph said.

Mr. Joseph said the Congress party could not overlook the contributions made by Vayalar Ravi in building the party in the State.

As such his candidature to Rajya Sabha was in order, the Minister said.
