A four-year-old girl found murdered near a tree in an estate area at Sasthanada, near Kumily, on Wednesday, was raped, the post-mortem report said on Thursday. The autopsy was conducted at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam.
Superintendent of Police K.K. Chellappan, who is heading the investigation team, said the police had questioned many people and their statements had been recorded.
A forensic team reached the crime spot and collected evidence.
The body of the girl was brought to Sasthanada and later taken to her parents' native place at Muthalapuram in Tamil Nadu.
