Atrocities against tribespeople

April 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - KALPETTA:

The Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha (AGM) is gearing up to launch series of agitations in protest against the alleged negligence of the State government in adopting measures to prevent atrocities against tribal people.

At a press conference here on Friday, AGM chairperson C.K. Janu and convener M. Geethanandan said that though a week had passed after a minor tribal girl at Ambalavayal was molested, the police were yet to take any action against the culprits, except for the arrest of a man. The organisation would take out a protest march to the Secretariat and the collectorate here on Saturday and Tuesday, respectively, demanding action against those who were exploiting tribal women folk and looting the resources in tribal hamlets. He said the government had failed to evict those people who had encroached upon Aralam farm. — Staff Reporter
