Condemning the massacre of 39 Indians by the IS at the Iraqi city of Mosul in 2014, the Kerala Assembly on Wednesday flayed the Central government for keeping the country in the dark about the gruesome killings.
Making a statement in the House, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of holding back information from the relatives of the slain Indian workers who hailed from Punjab, Bihar, Bengal and Himachal Pradesh.
Cover up
He said the government had ignored the statement of Harjit Masih, the lone survivor, and jailed him on trumped up charges. “By trying to cover up the incident, the government has committed an inhuman act.”
The Chief Minister also said the government should have informed the relatives of the massacred workers before making a statement in the Parliament.
Earlier, Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan read out a statement condemning the killing of 39 Indians by IS terrorists. The House expressed condolences to the families of the slain workers.
Mourning the massacre, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government was guilty of holding back information on the incident for over four years.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the 39 Indians were dead and their remains identified.
