The Kerala Assembly was adjourned sine die on Tuesday, two days ahead of its schedule.
The House passed nine Bills during the session, which began with the Governor’s Address to the House on February 1. Four of the legislation — the Kerala Protection of Interests of Depositors in Financial Establishments Bill, the Kerala Dairy Farmers’ Welfare Fund (Amendment) Bill, the Kerala Headload Workers’ (Amendment) Bill, and the Kerala Tolls (Amendment) Bill — were passed on Tuesday.
Though the Assembly was convened mainly to consider legislation, the session had turned stormy over the allegations against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien and related issues. The Opposition staged sit-in in the well of the House and demonstration to mark its protest.
Adjourning the House, Speaker G. Karthikeyan said that Ministers had answered, on average, 382 questions a day, either orally or in writing during the session. As many as 200 submissions were raised and 10 adjournment motions moved during the session.
