The State government has recommended to the Union Government that ‘Daiva Dasakam’, a song written by Sree Narayana Guru, be approved as the national prayer song, according to a press release here.

Sree Narayana Cultural Council activist K.M. Jayasenan, who had earlier submitted a letter to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting requesting approval of the song as the national prayer song, said in the release that the State Culture Department had informed him that the recommendation was sent to the Centre recently.

Mr. Jayasenan said he had sent letters to other States and Union Territories too, requesting that they also make similar recommendations. While the Karnataka government informed him that it had already recommended the song, the Union Territory of Delhi and the Uttar Pradesh government were considering recommending the song to the Centre, he added.

‘Daiva Dasakam’ or ‘Ten Verses to God’ was penned in Malayalam by Sree Narayana Guru in 1914.
