Nearly 4000 candidates have been screened so far at the army recruitment rally being held at the Kerala Armed Police Battalion IV at Mangattuparamba here.

The recruitment rally being conducted under the aegis of the Army Recruiting Office (ARO), Kozhikode, under the Headquarters Recruiting Zone (HRZ), Bangalore began on February 8 and will conclude on February 16. The rally is being conducted for candidates from seven districts of North Kerala and the Union Territories of Lakshadweep and Mahe.

H.S. Rawat, Director of the ARO, said at a press conference here on Saturday that the ongoing rally was drawing good response from the youth. The recruitment was being carried out for soldier general duty, soldier technical, soldier nursing assistant, soldier clerks/store keeper technical and Defence Security Corps. He said that the rally was being organised professionally with transparency and witnessed by officials of the district administration here.

He said that the candidates of soldier technical categories of North Kerala who had been declared eligible to appear for written examination should report to the ARO, Kozhikode, at 6 a.m. on February 27 for the examination. Medically fit candidates would then be eligible to appear for the written examination on April 24, he added.

For soldier clerk/store keeper technical category, examination would be held on May 29 and for the rest of the categories it would be held on April 24 at the ARO, while that for soldier nursing assistant would be conducted at the HRZ on April 24. Computer-based entrance test was being tried for the first time at the HRZ, he added.

The candidates attending the recruitment rally here are initially being put through physical fitness tests in which they are made to run one and a half mile, do pull-ups, jump across a nine feet ditch and walk across a zig-zag balance. They are then physically examined for height, weight and chest and finally medically examined.

The ARO Director said that an ex-servicemen rally being organised on February 15 alongside the recruitment rally was meant to ensure an interaction between army officials and the ex-servicemen.
