Aranmula stir is for nature: Kummanam

May 01, 2014 04:07 pm | Updated May 23, 2016 06:45 pm IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

Environmental issues concerning the controversial airport project at Aranmula can never be resolved through dialogues, Aranmula Heritage Village Action Council chief patron Kummanam Rajashekharan, has said. Mr. Rajashekharan was addressing the indefinite satyagraha launched by the People’s Joint Action Council at Aranmula on its 79th day on Wednesday.

He said the ongoing mass movement at Aranmula was to protect nature. He said the conversion of Aranmula puncha (paddy land) would destroy river Pampa and the paddy bowl of Kuttanad.

It was an irony that Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha P.J .Kurien, who had been talking loud on the rejuvenation of river Varattar, stood for the conversion of small streams leading to Pampa as well as the Aranmula puncha which was the riparian flood plane area of Pampa, Mr. Rajashekharan said.
