Aranmula project against people: Pinarayi

February 09, 2014 02:31 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:58 pm IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

The proposed private airport at Aranmula will cause disastrous environmental issues and the project is against the interests of the people, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Mr. Vijayan told reporters here on Saturday that the government machinery had been misused to implement the proposed ‘anti-people and anti-environment’ project. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Anto Antony, MP, had been supporting the private airport company, thereby abetting the violation of various laws, Mr. Vijayan said.

Big guns were behind the airport company which wielded undue influence on the government. The company could obtain various clearances in violation of laws, he said.

The Ministries of Defence and Civil Aviation had objected to the project, Mr. Vijayan said. The CPI(M) would stand firm behind the people of Aranmula who had been waging a struggle against the project.

VS’s letter to Chandy

The letter written by Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in support of K.K. Rema's fast is wrong and anti-party, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

The CPI(M) leader was addressing public meetings at Ranni and Thiruvalla in connection with his ‘Kerala Raksha Yatra’ on Saturday.

He said the letter was contradictory to the party stand. He said CPI(M) had a definite stand on the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan and the fast staged by his wife Ms. Rema demanding a CBI probe into the case.

The letter written by Mr. Achuthanandan was against the party stand, he said. However, Mr Vijayan said that nobody could make Mr. Achuthanandan a party to the conspiracy against the CPI(M). The fast staged by Ms. Rema and the like were very much part of a conspiracy hatched against the CPI(M) by certain constituents of the ruling United Democratic Front, a section of the Congress party, and the RMP.

The CPI(M) leader alleged that Ms. Rema had started her indefinite fast after much homework and with a fervent hope that the government would order a CBI inquiry into the murder case.

But, the government had taken a twist to initiate other procedures, knowing that there was no legal scope for a CBI probe into a case that had already been disposed of by a court, he said.
