The State unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was in the news on Monday after senior journalist Anita Pratap declined to be the party’s media coordinator.

Ms. Pratap had put in impressive performance as the party candidate in Ernakulam Parliament constituency in the recently held Lok Sabha polls by securing more than 50,000 votes.

She was nominated to head the coordination committee on media, one of the four such committees that AAP has formed to help the State committee strengthen the party operations in the State.

Ms. Pratap told The Hindu through an SMS from abroad that she turned down the assignment as she would be out of the country for sometime. She, however, termed as “baseless” television reports that she had quit the party.

AAP spokesperson K.P. Ratheesh said that Ms. Pratap conveyed her decision in response to an email inviting her to the State committee meeting held on Sunday as a special invitee. The heads of coordination committees on political issues and policy making, organisation build-up, secretariat and media are allowed to attend State committee meetings as special invitees.
