The government is launching a Statewide campaign for the control of three major animal diseases — rabies, brucellosis and foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

The inauguration of a new office and emergency control room for the Animal Disease Control Project at Kudappanakunnu on Tuesday will also mark the start of the campaign. The Department of Animal Husbandry said it was geared up for the third phase of the Rabies-Free Kerala project. The State-level launch of the National Control Programme on Brucellosis (NCPB) would also be held. Brucellosis, which causes abortion and infertility in animals, is a zoonotic disease. The NCPB will vaccinate all calves to prevent infection of humans.
