Kudumbasree’s hostel to be formally opened on May 14

With the aim of offering affordable accommodation for girls and working women, the Kudumbasree Mission, under its Eksath project, will formally open an women’ hostel in Gujarathi Street, here, on May 14.

Mayor A.K. Premajam will inaugurate the new facility. Women and girls who reach the city for various purposes can make use of the facility, which can accommodate 60 persons at a time. Two dormitories and 14 separate rooms will be available on first come, first served basis. Arrangements have been made to accommodate at least three persons in a room, each of which has an attached bathroom, separate dressing area and shelves for storing things.

Daily, monthly

For a day’s stay in the dormitory, only Rs.200 will be charged.

The monthly rent of single rooms is fixed at Rs.3,000. Women who need food will have to pay an additional Rs.1,500. The allotment of rooms will be made for a term of 12 months.

“Though we will be allotting rooms for women who seek long stay, some of the rooms will be reserved to accommodate travelling women. The rooms are furnished and offer all essential facilities,” says P.P. Biju, vice-president of Eksath Project. Chairs and tables have been ensured in all rooms, which will offer a decent and comfortable stay for the women, he adds.

Enquiries

So far, the hostel has received over 150 telephone enquiries and an equal number of women have visited the 6,000 sq ft building to see the facilities.

Eksath will also provide skill development training to women. The support of professionally qualified resource persons will be made available at the centre for training. For details, call: 80869 62006.
