Ammonia leak in ice factory, hydrochloric acid leak in lorry

Authorities are trying to transfer the contents of a tanker lorry carrying hydrochloric acid after plugging its leak at Matheri in Thottappally by Friday evening, while ammonia gas leak in a fish processing plant at Valanjavazhi in the evening was brought under control.

The tanker lorry carrying the hydrochloric acid was on its way to Thrissur from Tuticorin when it developed a leak by Friday morning.

The driver parked the lorry on the side of the National Highway. Later the leak was plugged and fire force also sprayed water to neutralise the effect of leaked acid.

The ammonium leak at the plant in Valanjavazhi by Friday evening was also brought under control.

Fire force units were pressed into service to bring the gas leak under control.
