Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah will flag off a padayatra (foot march) led by the party’s State president Kummanam Rajasekharan at Payyanur on October 3. The police are making all law and order arrangements in connection with the march.

BJP national executive member P.K. Krishnadas said at a press conference here on Sunday that the party president would inaugurate the Janaraksha Yatra near the old bus stand at 10 a.m.

Mr. Shah would join the march from Payyanur to Pilathara, where he would address the public in the afternoon. The padayatra was being held as the BJP’s campaign to mobilise public opinion against ‘Marxist-Jihadi’ violence, he said.

The BJP leader said thousands of party workers would participate in the inaugural function and join the march. Senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers would join the yatra on different stretches. On the first day at Payyanur, Mr. Shah would inaugurate an exhibition of photos featuring ‘Marxist-Jihadi’ violence. The leaders would pay tributes to leaders of Sangh Parivar organisations over the past five centuries, he added.

The BJP president would join the march on its third day here on October 5 from Mambaram to Thalassery via Pinarayi, he said.

Mr. Krishnadas said he would also take part in a public function at Thalassery that day. The yatra, on the second day on October 4, would start from Keecheri and conclude at Kannur.

Extra law and order arrangements were made by the district police in connection with Mr. Shah’s visit from October 3 to 5 and the march that would cover 41.5 km including Pinarayi, the native place of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The police said 500 personnel would be deployed for law and order duties and road traffic arrangements. Payyanur town and nearby areas were under police vigil. The personnel would include the Armed Police Force and Rapid Action Force personnel, the police added.
