Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday that the alleged attempt by State Information Commissioner and former Deputy Inspector General of Police K. Natarajan to interfere with the ongoing investigation into the ‘unjustifiable’ allotment of government land to a relative of V.S. Achuthanandan was a serious matter.

The police are investigating the matter and the government will consider action on receipt of their report. The truth about the allegation and the circumstances of the phone call made by Mr. Natarajan to the investigating officer asking him to spare Mr. Achuthanandan need to be examined, the Chief Minister said in reply to questions from the media at his weekly Cabinet briefing.

Mr. Chandy said the government was not pursuing the case against the Leader of the Opposition with any political motives. The investing officers had been given a free hand and were taking their own time to complete the investigation.
