Alappuzha beach fest begins today

The Alappuzha beach festival, organised jointly by the district administration, Alappuzha municipality, and District Tourism Promotion Council, will get under way on Monday.

K.C. Venugopal, MP, will formally launch the programmes lined up for the festival at 7 p.m. G. Sudhakaran, MLA, will inaugurate a cultural get-together on the occasion.

Alappuzha municipal chairperson Mercy Diana Macido will preside over the meeting. The inaugural session will be followed by ‘Naattarangu’ and ‘Pattukoottam’ presentations by a group led by Punnapra Jyothikumar.

A musical performance by Stephen Devassy will bring an end to the festivities for the day.

A presentation of north Indian art forms by the Thiruvananthapuram-based Bharat Bhavan will be held on Tuesday evening. Later, a comedy mega-show led by stand-up comedian and actor Ramesh Pisharody.

A public meeting arranged for the New Year’s Eve will be inaugurated by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. T.M. Thomas Isaac, MLA, will preside over the meeting.

Playback singers Ranjini Jose and Franco will enthral the audience with a performance that will conclude the celebrations.

Food festival A food festival that offers a wide variety of cuisines has already commenced at the beach in connection with the annual festival.
