The pro-Communist Party of India (Marxist) Adivasi Kshema Samiti (AKS) began an indefinite day and night stir “Thudikotti Samaram” in front of the Collectorate here on Monday.

CPI(M) leader and MLA E.P. Jayarajan inaugurated the agitation by beating the traditional drum (thudi) of the tribespeople. CPI(M) leaders who addressed the gathering at the inaugural function flayed the Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha (AGM), which had staged the “Nilpusamaram” in front of the Secretariat recently.

Deceiving Adivasis

Mr. Jayajan alleged that AGMS leaders M. Geethanandan and C.K. Janu were deceiving the Adivasis in the name of “Nilpusamaram”. The government had given many assurances though they were yet to be implemented, he said.

He also criticised the Maoists for taking advantage of the plight of Adivasis. The welfare and development funds earmarked for tribespeople are not utilised properly, he alleged.
