Akademi’s professional theatre awards announced

Pranaya Sagaram by the Kerala People’s Arts Club, Kayamkulam, has won the best Professional Drama Award for 2014 instituted by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi. The award carries Rs.40,000 as cash prize and a citation.

The play cornered six more awards in various categories including best director (Manoj Narayanan), best male singer (Kallara Gopan), best female singer (Rajalakshmi), best lyricist (O.N.V. Kurup), best background music director (M.K. Arjunan), and best stage designer (Artist Sujathan).

Kollam Assissi Arts Club’s Ottamarathanal has been selected as the second best play. Khalid Kedamangalam secured the best actor award for his performance in the drama Abraham . Bindu Suresh in Ottamarathanal is the best female actor. Sudharshan Kudappanamoodu ( Snehasanthwanam ) and Shiny ( Apradhana Varthakal ) were selected the best second actor and female actor respectively.

Francis T. Mavelikara has been selected as best playwright for Abraham and Ottamarathanal . Hemanth Kumar ( Orkkuka Ore Oru Jeevitham ) won the award for the second best playwright. Sarasan secured the best comedy award.

Gauri P. Krishnan shared the best female singer award with Rajalakshmi for her song in Snehasantwanam . Artist Sujathan won the best stage designer award for Pranaya Sagaram , Ottamarathanal, and Snehasanthwanam . Rajan Kalady ( Eee Janmam Safalam ) is the best light designer. Velayudhan Keezhillam has been selected for best costumier award.
