Youngsters cutting across political affiliations have joined hands at Thrikovilvattom panchayat on the outskirts of the city to save a wetland from reclamation. The wetland, Perumkulam Ela, in Mukathala is stated to be the second largest paddy field expanse in the State.
The youngsters, under the banner of an action council, will launch an indefinite fast in front of the Thrikovilvattom grama panchayat office from April 6. Youth Congress State vice president C.R. Mahesh will inaugurate it.
Action council chairman Palliman Santosh said the wetland was being wantonly reclaimed by land sharks with the connivance of some bureaucrats and politicians.
