VS seeks government intervention, warns of State-wide stir

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has sought the immediate intervention of the government in various issues of the tribespeople in the district.

Inaugurating a 24-hour siege to the Collectorate organised by the pro-CPI (M) Adivasi Kshema Samiti (AKS) here on Monday, Mr. Achuthanandan said he would raise the issues in the Assembly.

He would also write to the Chief Minister and the Ministers concerned on the issues that included speedy measures to provide land to the landless tribesmen in the State.

If the government failed to respond positively, the party would launch a State-wide stir, Mr. Achuthanandan said.

Accusing the government of apathy, he said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was running away from the issues of the public after the solar scam.

Regarding the agitation demanding resignation of the Chief Minister, Mr. Achuthanandan said the civilized public would boycott and wave black flags at the representatives of people who followed anti-people policies in a democratic set-up.

The AKS demands included land for landless tribal people, security projects, education grants for children, and early completion of housing projects.
