September 02, 2012 12:03 pm | Updated 12:03 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Congress in Kerala is set to get a dash of glamour with actor Sheela deciding to join the party.

The actor, who had done some of the most unforgettable roles in Malayalam cinema, met senior Congress leader and Defence Minister A.K. Antony in New Delhi on Saturday and later told TV channels that she had been planning to enter politics for quite sometime now. “I wish to do something for the people, particularly women,” she said.

About her preference for the Congress, Ms. Sheela said she found the party most acceptable as it had been around for long as a major political player. She also made it clear that she was not entering politics to make money.

“Those who come into politics from the film field do so not for money because they can make more money from cinema. It is also not for fame for there is much more fame to earned in cinema,” the ace actor of yesteryear said.

Ms. Sheela, who is still active in cinema, said she would move to Thiruvananthapuram soon.
